Once I received the msgs, my brain instantly shut down. It’s a dream and if I sleep and wake up, it won’t be true. First thought as I reached conciousness…No, no, no, this can’t be real. Some kinda dumb mistake. Then, the confirmations came…the truth. Stunned and paralyzed, I’m frozen. More tears flow as the reality sets in. I have no voice, cannot speak, throat is tight like a vise… just tears.
A great spirit, funny as shit, bustin’ chops always, but with the biggest heart. I’ll always remember your skating and the sound of your back-to-back corner grinds. I just can’t wrap my head around not seeing you whenever our paths would cross. I cherish every memory, all the fun and laughs, love and friendship. We are all so indebted to you for all the skateparks that you made happen, pioneering the way for generations to follow. You’re a legend in my mind forever. I will miss you, my brother.

Andy was a fantastic person. I’m pretty sure I met him at the Barn years ago – but I really got to know him when we started working on the skatepark that was built on the pier in lower Manhattan.
I would bump into him in random spots – NYC or San Diego. The last time I saw him we skate the Coronado Skatepark in SD – he was shredding as always.
I never knew of Andy’s past, until I watched the posted interview. To me he was a genuine, thoughtful, caring human being.
I haven’t skated in a while – but last night I took the board out of the garage and cruised the bowls at the Chandler (AZ) Skatepark by my house as I tried to get my head around the news.
RIP

People like Andy Kessler don’t come around too often, but when they do, they usually are skateboarders. There’s something about the mark people make on you and others that leaves a lasting impression. Maybe it was the fact that he always seemed to be laughing, always seemed to be skating, or always seemed to be enjoying the company of others as much as they enjoyed his. Sometimes it’s the little things that stand out the most. Those are the things I’ll never forget and I’ll never forget Andy Kessler.

The skateboard world has lost a brother and true advocate. He was always smooth and will be missed by many.

what does “…of 108″ refer to? 108th St?

108th St & Riverside is the location of Riverside Skate Park in NYC. Kessler designed it, built it and ripped it on a constant basis.
