Meeting and then having James Rosenquist visit my studio has been one of the highlights of my life and art career. He was solely responsible for putting the muscle into the art movement that would be called pop art. Being able to talk about life and art with someone with his accomplishments is something that I have not taken for granted…it has left me altered for sure. Especially having grown up staring at pictures like this:
and epic masterpieces like F-111:
Great stuff!
If anyone else would like to come down to Tribeca (21 Warren St.) for a studio visit just send me an email….there will be wine, or Bourbon
Cheers

613: 3rd annual Shut Shop Skate Summit [SSSS] Michael Cohen, Jason Oliva, Rodney and Kieran Smith
October 30, 2010

SHUT SHOP

So I have been away working hard with regards to art but now I am back, somewhat. So we had the third annual SHUT Shop Skate Summit [SSSS]. I am glad to say that in a matter of three years attendance has doubled in size! This year Rodney and I were joined by Michael ‘The Concierge” Cohen and next gen Smith-Kieran. Michael was just randomly rockin the [EN-JAY] shirt when I turned up. As per normal we chatted and set the skate world to right but the hot topic for me was the new Jamie Affoumado board that Shut put out. Its got killer graphics derived from Jaime’s Karate certificate and sick shape….We are gonna get these up in the shop ASAP, in the meantime checkout the cool new SHUT shirts, Eli killed it with this ONE
Great time
Thanks my Brutha’s
Jason
PS - Thanks for the kick..Sean K!

612: Cheers! Jason Oliva [New Paintings] Iphonage by Derek Rinaldi
September 28, 2010
Thanks to all the Skate Bruthas that came out for the show I only wish we could have had more one on one time. John Fudala, Michael Cohen, JR, Derek, two generations of Padulos, David Padulo, Lucas and Collin Padulo, Patrick Guidotti, an early appearance by Steve Rodriguez, Wig (who I embarrassed myself by not recognising but in my defense the last time I saw him we were in a police station, he was my height and it was 1987) Ken Deitz and his wife who went home with some art! and the King of all appearances Jay Henry and the lovely Amber. Jay it was so rad to see you as I was saying at the show you make up the triumvirate of my art heros: Jay Henry, Dan Tag and Steve Mannion. It was a great night that went on till the wee hours of the morning. I think the grand total was 4 double magnums of white wine and 12-15 Mag’s of red wine. And speaking of fine wine I even had a chance (I think sometime after Mid-night) to hand out the last of the fine wine…THOS and EN-JAY tee’s
too cool, cant wait to do it again.

611: See you Space Cowboys tomorrow!
September 23, 2010
609: DANGER!
September 17, 2010
Jason,
Just wanted to wish you well with the show… I bet that you’ve
been quite busy preparing! Things here are finally cooling a bit, and the
skating is heating up. We’ve been hitting up some parks and will be going downhill tomorrow! It’s such a stoker— There has also been some improvements made to an existing park which was a drag, and now flows 100x better– it flows almost like Reading did. I’m being real generous comparing anything to one of my all time favorite spots! It really is fun though. I also received word on the Cherry Hill TG deck– It is available at Socal Skateshop or Big Block Distribution. It is a dream come true for me as it completes the circle by returning to my roots, while paying tribute to a park that I owe so much to. Again, have a GREAT show, and please post some photos!
All the best,
TG
too cool…you get what you give, someone emailed me that recently.
cheers Tom and congrats on the board
