Tom Groholski 1986 Girl Ramp NJ Frontside air over channel
Photo Jason Oliva
Ok so I am a little biased having taken this photo and cropped it but I think its the coolest vert shot ever…
Its available to use as wallpaper (click the wallpaper post it button below) and has become the Official House of Steam image.
here is a copy of the full photo:
Tom Groholski FACE HIGH Frontside Air over the channel Girl Ramp NJ 1986
Ok equally as cool with the exception of Jimmy Kame looking like a conehead on the far wall. The Deck Shadows from left to right are:
2 girls… hence the name girl ramp, always at least 2.

Also check out the sweet Tommy G Robot Smith Grind graphics from none other then Team Steam’s own Raging Lamos Stevie “D” Mannion (never quite sure what the D was for)

Ben managed to snap this killer shot same trick same day.
If Dagnasty ever wants to make a new record then The House of Steam is sitting on the next album cover.
Hmmm… The ramp had a giant Dagnasty written across it and 2 girls would hang out on the deck. What do you call the ramp? The Girl Ramp naturally.
That makes alot of sense really.

Tom Groholski Invert to Fakie CCCC Va
Photo provided by Tom Groholksi
This is a tough one to work out. Its either a layback air or an invert to fakie. Tom killed both tricks…What do we think?
Jason,I think these are both tuck knee inverts to fakie… Straight up, boned out back leg, and straight back… So Sick.

Tom Groholski Girl Ramp NJ 1987 Rocky Vertone on Deck
Tom Groholski Mute Air Girl Ramp 1987 Rocky Vertone on the other deck!
So I am pretty sure this is 1987 because I used to drive to The Girl ramp and I know thats Rocky Vertone cause well Ive known him since 5th grade. I also know these where taken by Ben “Corntastic Cornman” Cornish cause they are black n white. I can also confirm all of this cause I was there on this day with everyone. lets see we had Tom, Pappo(NYC), Puppet(NYC), Tag(Dan), Jimmy and Dennis Kane, Rocky Vertone, Me(jason oliva), and Bernie O’Dowd. Great Day!!
If you are wondering it says Dagnasty across the far wall of the ramp…
oh yeah
Jay “Dammit” Henry says hello Tom!
Yes, this is my vintage photo, taken circa 7:45 pm today(july 25, 2007)…notice how the “camera man” (and I use the term loosely) not only took the front side grind fashionably late, but he somehow manage to get less than half of my body in frame…ah yes, those were the days…
I also decided to include one I took after my bike wreck the other day, just so everyone can stop wondering if I still smash my face on a daily basis, I do
Jay Henry
Ouch!!
Jay is OK (as Ok as Jay can get ) so dont worry…Where is that ramp? Looks like Woolworths.
Nice One!!

I grew up in Basking Ridge, watching Jay Henry, Greg Colescott and Tom Groholski
skate Jay’s ramp, the Barn and the GirlRamp(Purdy’s house). I was just a
grom hanging out with my bud Wig. We’d skate the ditch, then hit the Barn
and the Girly ramp, where we learned a lot. I remember Weepy (r.i.p.)very
well too. Although I was always intimidated as a grom, the Kanes and all
the guys that skated the Barn were cool to us. I almost broke my wrist
learning to drop in at the barn, being cheered on the the older guys. I
eventually got better over the years. I’ve included a picture of my
backyard ramp, (built entirely on stolen wood ha ha). Here is a pic of me
and my pal Sean learning at the Barn. (I’m the one standing on the
platform, Sean’s working on the frontside) The other is me chucking an Indy
air at the Girl Ramp. (Dig the old Dogtown deck) I wish I had more pics
to share, but it’s rad that you guys have a site, Wig turned me on to it.
I’ve lost touch with Jay Henry, but am newly in touch with Greg Colescott if
you guys remember who he was. He was a kid who moved from Huntington to
Basking Ridge and skated Jay’s house all the time in the mid eighties. I
also keep tabs on the Raging Lamos/Stevie D. I went on to start a band,
we’re called The Bouncing Souls and are still at it, making lots of records
and touring all the time. Thanks a lot!
Bryan
Thanks Bryan!!
The first time I saw The Bouncing Souls I was standing in a driveway and they were in a garage it was near Rutgers (i think) and a handful of peeps got together to hear them play one Saturday afternoon. They did a kick ass cover of FEAR’s I dont care about you. Well they have moved on to some lofty heights since those days in the late 80′s I guess its all NJ music history now. Head over to their website and buy all their T’s and records…

Tommy G Invert at the girl ramp NJ circa 1986
This was a great session… NJ a bit cold barren forest behind a bunch of houses. The dead boards nailed to the trees at the Girl Ramp come across kinda Blair Whitchy these days.
Thats Rocky Vertone with the pink helmet and Bernie O’Dowd on terra firma (historically Bernie always opted for a pickle colored helemet)
Sorry I havent been posting as much as usuall been all over the place over the holidays Ill try to get back on track……..
Stay tuned for photo’s, art, and stories from Jim Schezlick’s secret STASH!!!!
